With a scheduled launch for March "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is going to see an 8th season. That's right, Dark horse and Joss Whedon are going to be working together to let us know what happens next.
Whedon apparently has about 20 issues mapped out for the new series so far and after holding the reigns for the first four issues will be over seeing the rest of the run. No other writers have been named yet, but artist Georges Jeanty has been named for illustrator with Covers by Jo Chen.

"Season 8" is not going to pick up right after the climatic series finale. Some time
has passed since Sunnydale collapsed into the Hellmouth. In Angel it was touched
upon that Buffy was in Italy and dating, this series will show us a more worldly
Buffy, showing us what she has done with her time out of the states.
We'll also get to see what the rest of the Scooby Gang is up to. When they unleashed
the essence of the slayer at the end of the series they unlocked a lot of potentials
through out the world. We'll see camps set up through out the world being ran by
some familiar face.
And just because the adventures of Spike and Angel are already being told at IDW
Publishing that doesn't mean they won't make a visit. "''Yes — but. The characters
from the show Angel are owned by another company who picked up the comic book
publishing rights. That doesn't mean I can't use them, it just means I'm sparing in my
use of them because I don't want to interfere with another company, who are working
hard on that property. But Angel and Spike are characters that I would use
sparingly, anyway. They are important to Buffy, but too much is too much,'' Whedon
Told Entertainment Weekly in an online interview.
