I, Vampire #1

Can we say Twilight, Marvel’s Dracula, American Vampire…Vampire Vampire Vampire. Why is DC jumping on the vampire band wagon now? Is it because Marvel has had a focus on Dracula in their X-men books? Or is it to sucker in those who aren’t sure if they should chose Team Edward or Team Jacob? Well whatever demographic it’s meant for sign me up.

DC’s I,Vampire is a book based on a short story by J. M. Demetteis in House of Mystery that eventually took over the book. It was so popular back then that the Finale of the early 80’s “I, Vampire” ended up taking over the whole House of Mystery that month, but why bring it back now? Sure it was a popular story line in House of Mystery, but that was over 20 years ago and last I checked there wasn’t a campaign to bring back this underdog story?

I know, I know it seems that I am ragging on the book (and I am a bit), but all in all it is a great story for those of us that love a nice Gothic Romance. Two lovers that can’t be together because of power and lust; perfect for the hot topic crowd... not so great for me.

Joshua Hale Fialkov does a great job enticing the reader, but the art left a little bit more to be desired. The style fits, but I hate it when artwork is so “dreamy” that you can’t determine which character you looking at.

I, Vampire is a must have for the Twilight crowd, but unless you paint your face white or idolize Marilyn Manson I doubt you’ll like this book. The one thing that has me curious about it is the antagonist mentions a war against humans and the “Aliens and masked men” that have stolen their Earth. Will I, Vampire bleed into other books story lines?? Can this book hold one of the big villains in the new DCU?? We’ll find out..

…Otherwise I give the book a 5 out of 10.
