Video Game Review for Skyrim, or why I No Longer Have a Life and Nothing Else Matters

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Why I No Longer Have a Life and Nothing Else Matters.

So the Elder Scrolls series has been around for many years. I remember the first time I ventured into Morrowind, I know it’s not the first one but it’s the first one I played, and was over whelmed by the amount of things to do. Like I could do anything. I remember having great fun with boots that made me jump really high and not really doing much for the next how many hours I played cause I was to busy jumping. But the game though great lost me after a I beat the main story line. Then came Oblivion and it consumed my life, over 300 hours of it to be more precise. So think of my hesitation when Skyrim came out. Oblivion was so much to me, took so much of my time, I think about our time together almost like I would reminisce over a past fling, and now this new game saying that it was better then the last comes along. Well all I can say is Oblivion I love you but I am not in love with you any more.

Skyrim the newest addition to the Elder Scrolls addiction gives the player a new world to explore. Skyrim takes place in the land of Skyrim. The land is torn apart by civil war between the Storkcloaks and the Imperial Legion fighting over who best deserves to rule the land. If a war wasn’t enough you also have the return of Alduin a dragon that is pretty much trying to kill everything. And if fighting dragons or taking part in a giant civil war is not your thing then you could just join random factions in the game like the Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, College of Winterhold (mages guild), the Companions, or Bards College. The story of the game is huge with so many quests and side plots but do not worry the story flows marvelously and is easy to understand. You play the character of Dovahkinn you are the last of the Dragonborn and your goal is to kill the dragon Alduin and all the other dragons. You absorb the souls of the dragons you kill and have the ability to talk dragon speak which the game calls shouts.

After getting pass the initial this is what the game is about bit you get to where I am, the obsessively collecting stuff that doesn’t matter, pickpocketing everyone you see and just all around not so goodness. The game lets you go pretty much anywhere in the world and do so much that if your not carful will lead to what I like to call the “what the hell have I been doing for the last 3 hours and why do I have 50 cabbages?!” feeling.  In this game I have become obsessed with breaking into anything locked, stealing anything I can get my hands on, and pickpocketing random things into peoples pockets. I recently finished the main story line and now back to my ways of wondering around, I decided to focus on the Thieves guild because well I was doing it anyways might as well join the club.

If you were to ask me if you should play the game I would say yes but I warn you this game has the potential to be a drug worse then one would imagine. As I sit her writing this review all I can think about is the next time I get to play. All I can think about is the next thing I am going to steal, next house to break into, or item to enchant. I see the world around me as if I were still in the game. I think by crouching down people who are in the same room with me can no longer see me and I can get away with anything. I have the urge to want to randomly try to put things in peoples pockets and look through every box and bag for shiny trinkets, I also start thinking that I can actually cook or forge weapons out of leather and a piece of metal. The game is amazingly well done. The graphics, sometimes kind of pixelated or glitchy, are beautiful. Voice acting is fun and well fitting for most of the characters. For the most part the game is amazingly well done and will leave you wanting more. Even the flaws at this point are kind of endearing and bring some bits of funny to the game. Randomly floating people and weapons always is a strange site. The best though is when you find the corpse of something you kills hours ago doing a strange dancing ground humping move. So go out buy the game come to my world cause Skyrim is where I will be for a long time.
