DC Comics The Spector To Be Adapted For Television

DC's Spirit of Vengeance, who was recently given an animated short film adaptation, is the latest character from DC Comics that may materialize in a live-action television series.

With the end of Smallville’s 10-year run on television, DC Comics executives have expressed a desire to delve into its other superhero properties. There was a pilot developed for Aquaman that The CW network decided not to pick up as well as NBC’s decision to scrap the recent TV adaption of DC's David Kelley's Wonder Woman (although NBC is stated to be working with Supernatural creator and executive producer Eric Kripke to bring the comic hero Deadman to life for the first time on the small screen.

Now it is being reported that The Spectre, DC Comics' Spirit of Vengeance who first appeared in print in January 1940, is next in line for a possible adaptation. FOX is pursuing the series with Brandon Camp writing the script along with Bill Gerber acting as executive producer.

If you don’t know who the The Spectre is, he’s a cosmic entity and the physical embodiment of God's vengeance on DC Universe’s Earth. Permanently bonded to a human soul, he uses his incredible divine powers to punish the truly wicked, usually ending his victim's lives in creative and ironic ways. Jim Corrigan, a member of the Justice Society of America during the Golden Age, was the original Spectre and, with exception to Hal Jordan, the most well known character to bear the mantle.
