Amazing Spider-Man #667

Well we are all officially on Island Time now, today 'The Amazing Spider-Man" issue #667 hits shelves. Issue 667 is more commonly known as Spider Island Part 1, and let me tell you if the next 5 parts are as beautifully drawn, wonderfully written and completely engrossing as part 1 then "Fear Itself' has something to fear because Spider Island is going to be the best Marvel event of the year.

Peter Parker's life hasn't gotten any easier since Spider Island Prelude. His girlfriend, New York City police officer Carlie, is one of the infected New Yorkers who are all just finding about their new powers... Carlie is ecstatic about this revelation, even dubbing herself 'Spider-Cop,' and Pete is doing everything possible to temper her excitement. On the other side of New York, the Jackal has seen to it that the seedy underbelly of New York didn't miss out on the newly spreading spider power epidemic. Jackal gathers up his new minions and quickly sets them on a path of destruction that only Jonah Jameson could have seen coming. As the resident heroes of New York rush to stop the new spider criminals, Peter is oblivious to the chaos as he tries to deal with Carlie, as well as Aunt May moving to Boston. However, once Carlie catches wind of the criminal activity she uses her newly found powers to run head on into battle. Peter chases after her as his life as Peter Parker and Spider-Man all become tangled in one big web. The issue leaves readers itching for the next part and wondering how Spider-Man is going make it out of this one alive.

Dan Slott and his artistry team of Humberto Ramos, Carlos Cuevas and Edgar Delgado make the story come alive through word, and art. Slott writes the book as a Spider-Man book should be written. The dialogue, one-liners, and everything in between are exactly what fans are looking for when they pick up an issue of Amazing Spider-Man. The art does a great job of making the book come alive. The cover was amazing as well. Featuring various Marvel hero's wearing different Spider-Man costumes the cover art got me really excited to pull the book out of its board and bag.

I can't wait to for the next issue to come out and I only wish I had Madam Web like powers so I could see what the future holds in store for Peter. If you love the Marvel universe than this comic is just for you. It is also a great place to start reading Amazing Spider-Man if you've been looking for the right time to hop on board with the series. I highly recommend you go see your friendly neighborhood comic book store and grab a copy of Spider Island Part 1.

Stellar 9 out of 10!
