1 Month 2 Live

Is the book bringing in a new super hero, replacing the omnipotent sentry, or is it the delusions of a severely cancer stricken man with super hero delusions? Either way I seem to be enjoying it.

Full of inconsistencies (that I think support the delusional theory) 1 month 2 live is a Marvel weekly comic that tells the story of Dennis Sykes. He has the job we all hate, the man at the bank that always bears the bad news; if someone’s loan is denied or a grant falls through good old Dennis is the one to let you know about it. He despisies it, but he’s good at it and it brings in the dough.

After a horrible day revoking a schools sculpture garden grant and a life changing accident that nearly kills Sykes he finds himself with the ability to alter matter at his will.

Segue into a training montage with Spider-Man and karate kid-esque training and a super hero is born… And not too soon, the Fantastic Four just happen to be looking for a super hero with his each abilities.

Adventurers ensue as all the super beings go off to rescue the galaxy, but it’s the cut scenes of Dennis’ real life that make me question the reality of his adventures. Cause while Dennis is off fighting with the fantastic four his wife is at home realizing that the bills have not been paid and finding out that Dennis has actually been struck down with cancer.

While his wife Abbey acknowledges Dennis’ absent one could interpret this as realty while Dennis escapes the utter reality of death and bankruptcy by escaping into his own marvel comics fantasy.

Is it the best book out there, not really, but it is one of the better mini series that Marvel has produced out of it’s Heroic Age saga and is sure worth a look; if not in single issue format, then in trade.
