(For the week of 5/5/2010)
5 out of 5 Nuts
Avengers The Origin #2 (Marvel)- This is another instance where I wonder why do we need this? Avengers The Origin retells the Avenger’s Origin story with a slight modern day twist and it reads well, the art work is great, but I find myself wondering who even thought we needed to know about the Avenger’s origins again?? I know they’re rebooting the books, but tell us a NEW story.

Batman & Robin #12 (DC Comics)- This book gets the WTF moment of the week. Grant Morrison’s run on Batman has been a weird one and things just got odder when we find out who the elusive Mr. Sexton really is; One Hint, It’s not Bruce Wayne. Great fun leading into the return of Bruce Wayne next week. CANNOT WAIT!!!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 #35 (Darkhorse) - Why did this book have to get silly? When Season 8 first started I enjoyed the revisit to the Buffyverse; seeing my old friends that visited me weekly through my TV set and just having a good ‘ol time, then it kept going and going and going. Finally we’ve come to the point were Buffy and Angel (masquerading as Twilight) screw and evolve into a new species, ok …that’s fine, but this issue finds us having to read over and over..it’s the natural way of things, what is meant to be will be and recaps about them having sex multiple times (people talking about it multiple times, I have no clues how many rounds they went on for.). Finally when we think we get to the BIG Fight near the end we suddenly have a new special guest appear……and guess who it is? I”m not going to ruin the surprise for you, but I”m going to tell me I actually said out loud…OH COME ON!!!!
3 out of 5 Nuts(and I’m being generous)
Grimm Fairy Tales Inferno #1 (Zenescope)- This is Zenescope’s take on the Dante’s Inferno story line and like most of their books it’s just OK. Inferno stars Grace Dante as the main character who was recently involved in a car accident that robbed her of her memory. Partner that with a sleazy boss, drunk Boyfriend and neighbors that make Charles Manson’s crew seem polite, Grace is having a rough life. In comes a mysterious woman who is there to help Grace see what is really going on in the world and the wild adventure starts. Could be a good book, but judging by Zenescope’s shipping schedule I’ll probably forget about it when the second issue doesn’t arrive for three more months.
2 our of 5 Nuts
iZombie (DC/Vertigo Comics)- Weird weird and even weirder, but what do we expect from Chris Roberson and Michael Allred (of Madman fame). Gwen Dylan is an ordinary girl, she collects Dixie Mason Action Dolls, has a day job digging graves, talks to ghosts and eats brains once a month. What?!?!?! that’s right, Gwen is azombie, but not one of those run of the mill lazy zombies. She solves crimes and works for a living. LOL. This book really intrigued me and for the price tag of a buck I definitely recommend checking it out.

Pilot Season Stealth (Top Cow/Image)- I’ve really been diggin Image’s Pilot Season this year and Robert Kirkman is probably the reason for it. Each issue this Pilot season has been ideas Kirkman has has. Stealth is so far the best. What happens when a super hero given a suit by aliens becomes senile and still fights the good fight, but has a harder time figuring out if he’s beating the bad guys or his own son. This is pivoting shit guys and I would totally check it out.

Superman: War of the Supermen #1 (DC Comics)- I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I’ve been growing weary of the NEVER ENDING slew of Superman titles. I know there’s only like four but I swear you have to read every one of them to get the whole story and I just couldn’t keep up, but with the handy dandy FCBD edition of War of the Supermen I found it easy to read the recap and know exactly what happened. Great Book that had the Super Hero vibe going full strength.
